Downtown Transit Center Receives Low Carbon Funds

Caltrans on Monday announced that 125 local projects received $34.5 million in funding from the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program. These projects continue California's effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the sustainability of public transportation systems around the state.

Summer Pump Prices Down

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 3.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.81/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.22/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Celebration For ACE Expansion

The Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) passenger rail service will be expanding its service to include downtown Modesto. The extension of service will also include Manteca, Turlock, and Merced. Currently, ACE does not have passenger service south of Manteca. The estimated time frame for service to start in these areas is 2023 however, they are optimistic that they will be well ahead of that date.

Congressional Art Contest Winner Honored In D.C.

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham welcomed the winner of California's 10th District Congressional Art Competition, Skye Ocaranza, to the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, June 29. Skye's artwork, "Rampehant," was selected by a panel of local judges and will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel alongside the winning entries from every congressional district in the United States for the next year, where thousands of visitors will be able to view the entries on their way to the U.S. Capitol.

CAL FIRE Stresses Safety As July 4 Holiday Approaches

With the Fourth of July holiday quickly approaching, CAL FIRE is reminding everyone to do their part to prevent fires and injuries caused by fireworks. Two out of five fires on the Fourth of July are caused by fireworks, more than any other cause of fires. The majority of these incidents are related to either the use of illegal fireworks or state-approved fireworks that are used incorrectly.

Vietnam Moving Wall On Display In Stockton

The Vietnam Moving Wall is now on display at the Weber Point Events Center in Stockton. A ribbon cutting was scheduled Thursday, June 29 at 3 p.m. to open the exhibit for tours and the wall will remain in the area through Monday, July 3. A special program is scheduled for Saturday, July 1 at noon, honoring veterans and the sacrifices and contributions they have made to our country.
