High Hopes For City’s Future

With dozens in attendance, Oakdale Mayor Pat Paul presented her State of the City address at a lunch hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at the Oakdale Community Center. The Jan. 26 event was attended by over 100 people, including city officials, local business owners, members of the Rotary Club, and Riverbank Mayor Virginia Madueno.

Oak Valley Hospital Selected As Rural Teaching Site

The UC Davis School of Medicine has selected Oak Valley Hospital to participate in a new medical outreach program. The program, Rural PRIME for "PRograms In Medical Education," is designed to encourage third year medical students to select small communities as their first choice to practice medicine.

Police Search Sonora For Armed Robbers

An anonymous tip received by Oakdale Police led officers to the Sonora area Tuesday, Feb. 1 to recover a 2004 Chevy truck that had been reported stolen 10 days ago in a residential burglary on River Bluff Drive that may be connected to the armed robbery that occurred at Cost Less Market Sunday evening, Jan. 30 around 10:40 p.m. where the bandits made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Rural Fire To Reassess Parcels For Revenue

Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District volunteers will be paying a visit to the 1,900 parcels located within the district in the hope of discovering previously untapped revenue in the form of taxable improvements made on residential and commercial properties.

Vehicle Crashes Into Local UPS Store

Employees at the local UPS Store on East F Street in Oakdale were shocked when a vehicle crashed into the building on Wednesday morning, Jan. 26. The driver reportedly got her boot stuck between the brake and the accelerator, sending the car into the building. Oakdale Police Office Ben Savage, at left, moves in to assess the situation.

Oakdale Farmer Takes Reins Of Statewide Organization

At their semi-annual Board of Directors meeting, representatives of Backcountry Horsemen of California (BCHC) units throughout the state elected Oakdale resident, Dennis M. Serpa to their top leadership position. Serpa has now taken the reins as President of this over 3000-member equestrian organization that, through volunteer service and education, works to keep public lands open for recreational stock use.

OID Weighs Cost Cuts

In a recent memo to the Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors published in the agenda of the Jan. 18 regular meeting, General Manager Steve Knell noted that OID capital construction will be put on hold for the next two to three years. That move is due to the absence of revenue from Tri-Dam, resulting from unreimbursed expenses from the insurance company for the Donnells generator failure; weak power prices; and escalating construction costs of the Tulloch third unit.
