Capitol Rally Focuses On Summer Learning

Hundreds of California middle school and high school students marked National Summer Learning Day with a "Read-In" at the California State Capitol on Thursday, joining together with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and a host of state lawmakers, school district leaders, and civic leaders to rally for expanded summer learning opportunities for all California students.

Fundraiser To Benefit Arts Programs

Enforcement Effort Targets Distracted Drivers

Effective Monday, June 17, drivers in the greater Sacramento region who are observed texting or talking on a hand-held cell phone will be targeted in a special enforcement operation that will last through June 30. Thirty-seven local police departments and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will participate in the enforcement effort.

Weekend Charity Carnival

The Riverbend Ranch Charity Carnival will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4500 River Road in Oakdale. The Carnival is a charity fund raiser that the Kjeldgaard family started in 2007 for an orphanage in Libera.
