Oakdale Police responded to a reported bomb threat shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 in a call that prompted a 'shelter in place' for students at nearby Oakdale High School.

After a week long investigation, Oakdale Police have made one arrest and are anticipating the arrest of a second identified suspect from the Oct. 17 shooting near the Oakdale Market where a 23-year-old male from Riverbank was shot two times.

Operation Fog Ready To Kick In

During the winter months, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced Counties are plagued by extremely dense fog which poses a severe hazard to drivers. Typically the fog season begins during the month of November and continues through February. Despite this predictable seasonal occurrence, multi-vehicle accidents are commonplace due to the combination of fog, excessive speeds and traffic congestion.

Ex-Fire Chief Files Suit

Citing that he has the right to an appeal hearing under the district's disciplinary policy and that he was not afforded the opportunity to confront witnesses, former Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Chief Steven Mayotte filed suit at Stanislaus Superior Court on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Homecoming Week Wraps

Homecoming Week festivities wrapped up successfully on Friday, Oct. 18 when the Oakdale High School Mustangs beat Sierra High School at the OHS Corral by a 24-17 final in Friday night football. The satisfying win (See story, photos in Sports, Page B1) capped a busy week that also saw a repeat Powder Puff victory by the Class of 2014 (Page B2) and the crowning of new royalty in the Homecoming Court.

Farm Bureau Helps Sheriff’s Detectives

On Tuesday, Oct. 15 Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies responded to the report of a suspicious person and vehicle in the 3800 block of Service Road. Deputy Veronica Esquivez and Deputy Kyle Briggs found Irvin Turpitt, 53 of Modesto who tried to flee when deputies arrived. Turpitt, a well-known career criminal, was immediately apprehended and found to be in possession of a reported stolen vehicle. He was also in possession of illegal narcotics, stolen property and had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Mayor Pat Paul Hospitalized

Oakdale Mayor, Pat Paul, was hospitalized at Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto on Tuesday, Oct. 15 for an undisclosed reason. Staff at Doctor's Medical Center confirmed she was still there on Wednesday Oct. 16.

Fire Merger Study Presented

Officials from the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District on Monday, Oct. 14 moved forward on the possibility of a merger with the City of Oakdale Fire Department and the Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District with the presentation of a study that looked into staffing, finances, and combining operations.
