Oak Valley Forum On Obstetrics Closure Impassioned

What started as an orderly public hearing on Wednesday night, Feb. 13, turned into shouting, arguing, accusations, and name calling from the audience as the Oak Valley Hospital board held its first forum on the proposed closing of the hospital's obstetrics department.

Merchants Battling Blight

Hours after the Oakdale City Council on Monday night, Feb. 4 approved Police Chief Lester Jenkins' recommendation to remove the downtown benches in an effort to combat loitering by vagrants, city crews were out on North Third Avenue Tuesday morning unbolting and hauling away the benches for "refurbishing." With the benches now gone, downtown merchants await to see if the result is positive.

OID To Revisit Select Parcel Annexation

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors chose to table an action item regarding the list of selected parcels for annexation at its Feb. 5 regular meeting. The item will come back before the board at the Feb. 19 regular meeting. OID General Manager Steve Knell said the board wants to make refinements to the selection criteria for the annexation, possibly by implementing a variance to increase the available water for annexed lands.

Franciosa Takes Distinguished Young Woman Title

Oakdale High School junior Sabrina Franciosa was chosen the recipient of the title of Distinguished Young Woman, passed on to her from OHS senior and current Distinguished Young Woman Janki Mistry. The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program was hosted Saturday, Feb. 9 at Magnolia School Auditorium.

Thunder Team, Air Force Band Honor Military

Military Appreciation Weekend with the Stockton Thunder is set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16, with doors at the arena in Stockton opening at 6:30 p.m. each night and the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m.

UPDATED: Shot Fired At Officer Leads To Manhunt

Gun shots were fired at an Oakdale police officer on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29 which resulted in a multi-agency dragnet and the eventual arrest of two suspects. No officers were hurt or struck by the gunfire and by the end of the evening, both suspects were in jail.

Low Count Closes Hospital Ward

A dropping occupancy rate in Oak Valley Hospital's surgical and medical ward to only two patients caused the closing of the unit earlier this month until the number of in-house care patients was able to rise at the 35-bed facility. The two remaining patients were transferred to the hospital's intensive care unit for their care.

Stabbing Leads To Arrest

Oakdale Police arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday, Jan. 27 after responding to the Quik Stop Market on East F Street regarding a call at 4:22 a.m. of a suspicious male dressed in camouflage clothing and carrying a knife.
