OID Approves Annexation List

A revised list of parcels for agricultural annexation was approved by the Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors at its Feb. 19 regular meeting. The approval was for a total of 812.1 acres, owned by seven applicants, to be annexed. This item had been tabled at the prior OID meeting.

Arrest Made In Infant Death

Oakdale Police announced that they arrested Nichole Todd-Smith, 31, in connection with the death of her 44-day-old daughter from December 11.

Arrest Warrant For Mom Of Meth OD Baby

Oakdale police have obtained a felony arrest warrant for the mother of a 44-day-old girl that died in December. Toxicology results returned in January showed the infant had a high level of methamphetamine in its system at the time of its death.

Weekend Fundraisers Aim To Aid Local Youngsters

On Saturday, Feb. 19 at Karate For Kids, 3342 Santa Fe in Riverbank, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a car wash and bake sale to raise funds for one of the Karate For Kids students who is in need of heart surgery. They are accepting donations in any amount for the car wash. While the supporters' cars or trucks are being washed they can enjoy some food and beverages that will be available, again for an unspecified donation amount. Merchants Battling Blight

Hours after the Oakdale City Council on Monday night, Feb. 4 approved Police Chief Lester Jenkins' recommendation to remove the downtown benches in an effort to combat loitering by vagrants, city crews were out on North Third Avenue Tuesday morning unbolting and hauling away the benches for "refurbishing." With the benches now gone, downtown merchants await to see if the result is positive.

OID To Revisit Select Parcel Annexation

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors chose to table an action item regarding the list of selected parcels for annexation at its Feb. 5 regular meeting. The item will come back before the board at the Feb. 19 regular meeting. OID General Manager Steve Knell said the board wants to make refinements to the selection criteria for the annexation, possibly by implementing a variance to increase the available water for annexed lands.

Franciosa Takes Distinguished Young Woman Title

Oakdale High School junior Sabrina Franciosa was chosen the recipient of the title of Distinguished Young Woman, passed on to her from OHS senior and current Distinguished Young Woman Janki Mistry. The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program was hosted Saturday, Feb. 9 at Magnolia School Auditorium.
