Soccer League Grapples With Charity Status Loss

After the scandal of one of its volunteers getting arrested on suspicion of embezzlement earlier this year, the Oakdale Youth Soccer League faces another financial blow as it is now operating with a revoked non-profit status while still soliciting funds and donations. League officials are currently working on getting the status reinstated on what they say were oversights and problems with correct records from the internal theft.

Candy Alternatives Sought For Teal Pumpkin Project

With Halloween coming up next week, a local effort is hoping to get some area residents to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project. The goal is to offer non-candy items, helping make Halloween safe for young trick-or-treaters with food allergies.

Oakdale Senior Center Crafting Group will once again host its annual quilt raffle to benefit the Gladys L. Lemmons Senior Community Center. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The quilt is 96'x96' and the winner will be announced during the Senior Center Valentine Dinner on Feb. 10, 2017. Tickets may be purchased at the Senior Center at 450 E. A St., Oakdale.

Knights Ferry Hosts Annual Salmon Duathlon

On Your Mark Events presents its 20th Annual Salmon Duathlon and 5k Run on Saturday, Nov. 5, 8:45 a.m., in the historic hamlet and surrounding area of Knights Ferry. The Salmon Duathlon (run, bike, run) and 5k Run (two separate competitions) will benefit the preservation of the salmon natural spawning habitat in the Stanislaus River.

Young Entrepreneurs Encouraged To Apply For NFIB Scholarships

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Young Entrepreneur Foundation announced that its scholarship application for the 2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards is now open through Dec. 18, 2016. High school seniors who run their own business and plan to attend a two- or four-year university, college, or vocational institute during the fall of 2017 are eligible to apply.

Spooky Trekkers Walk

The Delta Tule Trekkers are hosting a fun "Spooky Walk" at Caswell Memorial State Park, 28000 Austin Road, Ripon, this coming Halloween weekend. Walks will be offered both Saturday, Oct. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 30. Families and individual walkers are invited to join the group on either a 5k or 10k walk through the wonderful oak woodlands at the park. The Modesto Junior College Theater Department presents San Joaquin Blues, an award winning original play about life in the mid-1960's in the Central Valley of California.
