World Ag Expo Sees Success In Tulare

The 2018 World Ag Expo came to a close after seeing large crowds, cutting-edge exhibits and gorgeous weather all three days of the show. Celebrating its 51st year, the world's largest annual agricultural exposition was held at the International Agri-Center and featured 1,480 exhibitors on 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. The three-day show hosted 106,700 attendees representing 49 states and 63 countries.

New Deputy Director Named For Caltrans

Ryan Chamberlain has been appointed to serve as the new Chief Deputy Director for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The announcement comes on the heels of Governor Edmund Brown's announcement earlier this month of Laurie Berman as the new Caltrans Director, who previously held the Chief Deputy Director position. The Governor's appointment puts in place a strong leadership team moving forward.

Commercial and sport anglers received mixed news this past week regarding the status of Sacramento River fall Chinook and Klamath River fall Chinook – California's two largest Chinook salmon populations. While adult returns of both stocks were well below minimum escapement goals in 2017, and projected abundance for both stocks is modest compared to historic averages, state and federal fishery scientists reported an increase in the number of jacks (two-year-old Chinook) that returned to spawn in 2017. Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 1 cent per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.07/gallon, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.50/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
