Biblical Historical Tour To Israel And Jordan

A Biblical and historical study tour to Israel and Jordan is scheduled to depart from San Francisco on Nov. 25, 2017. The 14-day Biblical journey will be led by Dr. Dale Pederson, area pastor, experienced Bible lands tour leader and pastor of Escalon First Baptist Church. The tour is offered in partnership with Southeastern University, NorCal in Modesto, where Dr. Pederson serves on the faculty. The cost of the 14-day deluxe tour is $3950. Sheriff’s Department Identifies Suspect, Deputy In Shooting

Detectives continue to investigate the officer involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, Aug. 6 in Knights Ferry. The deputy involved in the shooting has been identified as Christopher Hendee. He was hired by the Sheriff's Office in November of 2016, and he has been a peace officer for almost five years.

St. Louis Encephalitis Virus Detected

The East Side and Turlock Mosquito Abatement Districts (MADs) have received confirmation that a mosquito sample from Stanislaus County has tested positive for St. Louis Encephalitis Virus (SLEV). SLEV is related to West Nile Virus (WNV) and is transmitted via the bite of Culex mosquitoes, the same mosquitoes that transmit WNV.

Oakdale Soroptimist Club Installs Board Of Directors

Soroptimist International of Oakdale installed its 2017-2018 President Marcia Speiller and Board of Directors at a recent luncheon hosted at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Along with Speiller, those installed included President Elect Christine Serpa-Neugebauer, Vice President Jackie Hair, Treasurer Lois Kobayashi, Corresponding Secretary Suzanne Oden, Directors Cindy Hamilton and Tamberly Stone, and Delegate Charlotte Metcalfe. Also serving on the Board are Recording Secretary Pam Craig, Parliamentarian Elaine McConnell and Advisor Nancy Lilly. In addition to the officers being installed, Barbara Cook was honored with the 2016-2017 Distinguished Service Award and Cheryl Koff received the President's Award.

Local Authors Sought For Annual Library Fair

The Stanislaus County Library is looking for local published authors to take part in the Eighth Annual Local Author Fair on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place outside on the 16th Street side of the Modesto Library portico. Local authors will have the opportunity to promote their works, as well as sell and sign copies of their publications.
