Oakdale Women’s Club Slates Sept. 13 Meeting

The Oakdale Women's Club is meeting Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. The buffet luncheon will start at noon. The theme is Back to School and the featured speaker is Christina Carmelich. Local women are encouraged to come to the luncheon and enjoy hearing Christina, a docent at Columbia State Park, speak about the Columbia's old school house and its history.

Sports Boosters Gear Up

It goes without saying that Oakdale High School is passionate about their sports, at all levels. If you ever attended an OHS sporting event and Pete Simoncini is behind the microphone, you have heard him say "Welcome to Oakdale High School, the pride of the Valley Oak League." While the sport itself is the main draw, there is also a group of people who volunteer their time behind the scenes that help drive each of the sports programs year round: the Oakdale High School Sports Boosters Club.

ACE Receives Grant To Aid Modernization

The Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) was awarded $16,459,000 by the State of California through the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) as part of the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) 2016 Awards. These funds are dispersed by the State to fund capital improvements and operational investments that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and modernize California's intercity rail, and bus and rail transit systems.

New Transportation Funding Benefits Regional Projects

Continuing the push to rebuild and maintain California's infrastructure, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated $814 million to 135 transportation projects that will alleviate traffic delays, repair aging roads and bridges and encourage bicycling and walking. This includes 34 biking and pedestrian projects throughout the state that will receive $12.1 million in allocations from the Active Transportation Program.

The music of Remedy filled the air on Friday night, as the Concerts in the Park series continued at Oakdale's Dorada Park, offered through the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with local sponsors. In the photos, the band croons a tune while, their drummer keeps the beat and, below, people packed in food, beverages and even plenty of family pets to enjoy the Friday night summer sounds. The final concert in the series is coming up this week, Aug. 26, with The Lodge Pole Pickers performing starting at 6:30 p.m.
