The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency (SCHSA) announced this past week that the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has provided grant funding to the Keep Baby Safe (KBS) Car Seat Safety Program. This is the third consecutive year the KBS program has received these funds and the grant period is from Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018.

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 0.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.01/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.55/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The Oakdale Police Department has been awarded a $70,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries. The Police Department will use the funding as part of the city's ongoing commitment to keep roadways safe and improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.

Caltrans announced this past week that Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (Sumitomo) along with Siemens will be fulfilling a $371 million multi-state contract for new railcars to be used throughout California and the Midwest. The newly finalized contract will supply 137 single-level passenger railcars, 49 to Caltrans and 88 to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The production of these new passenger coaches will support hundreds of skilled and high-wage manufacturing jobs in California and are 100 percent "Buy America" from suppliers in California and across the country.
