State’s Increased Flood Risk Being Reviewed By FEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released new data on National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies, showing an increase of more than 27,000 new NFIP policies written in California during the month of December 2015. There is a 30- to 90-day waiting period for new policies to be reported to FEMA and the latest available data, released Feb. 16, shows an increase of more than 55,500 new flood insurance policies purchased in California from Aug. 31 to Dec. 31, 2015.

OHS Drama Club Presents “Rumors

Under the direction of drama teacher Bryan Mills, the Oakdale High School Drama Club will present a Neil Simon comedy, Rumors. This full length comedy will be presented on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. in the OHS Theater. Tickets are $5 and will be sold in advance in the business office of the school or at the door.

State Starts Formulating New California Rail Plan

Caltrans is beginning work on the next California State Rail Plan, which will provide the framework for California's rail network and set the stage for new and improved rail and community connections in the state for the next 20 years. Caltrans is seeking early and meaningful public participation throughout the formulation of the plan, with several options available for providing input and feedback.

Massive Hay Fire Impacts Air Quality

A hay fire burning in Escalon has prompted local air officials to issue a health cautionary statement for smoke impacts throughout southeastern San Joaquin County and northeastern Stanislaus County until the fire is extinguished. While measures were taken to contain the fire, smoke is impacting parts of Oakdale and Riverbank, and may reach other area communities into Saturday.
