To dispel rumors of bacterial contamination in the city's water lines, Oakdale Interim Public Services Director Jeff Gravel announced the recent chlorination of the city's water lines was due to construction and in no way a response to "fecal matter" in the system as some had reported on social media.

Oakdale residents and many from neighboring communities took advantage of the opportunity to officially welcome in the holiday season on Saturday. A portion of North Third Avenue was closed off to vehicle traffic, set up with vendor booths, food, music, horse drawn wagon rides and more, as part of the city's Downtown Christmas celebration. Later on, Santa continued the festivities at Oakdale in Wonderland for an evening of fun.

Downtown Oakdale was the place to be to ring in some holiday cheer on Saturday. Central Valley Con returns for its second year at the Modesto Centre Plaza and Doubletree Hotel in downtown Modesto on Sunday, Dec. 4. The one day pop culture convention will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is the third city in the StocktonCon Events list of events, in addition to Stockton and Lodi. (Grape City Con). Ticket prices for the one-day event are $8 at the door and $5 (plus convenience fees), at select locations around the Central Valley. A portion of the proceeds from the Central Valley Con will benefit the Modesto Gospel Mission.

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have not moved in the past week, averaging $2.42/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.12/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
