OID Board Selects Officers

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors selected its new officers for 2012 at the Dec. 6 regular meeting. Director Frank Clark will serve as board president, Steve Webb will serve as vice president, OID General Manager Steve Knell will serve as board secretary, and OID Chief Financial Officer Kathy Cook will serve as treasurer.

Infant Found Deceased In Waterford Trash Can

On Thursday evening, Dec. 1 at 9:22 p.m. Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Bait Barn located at 12505 Yosemite Blvd in Waterford, for an infant found in a garbage can. Fire personnel immediately responded and the infant was pronounced deceased.

Police Search For Stabbing Suspect

Police are searching for an Oakdale man suspected of stabbing another Oakdale man in the forearm following an argument. Benjamin Gayton, 29, is a local transient who is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches, 135 pounds, with very short, shaved brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a ripped white tank top undershirt. Gayton has a tattoo on his right arm that reads, "Gayton."

Stiff Wind Downs Trees

Dubbed an "epic windstorm" by Weather.com, the blustery storm didn't spare Oakdale as it blew through town Wednesday, Nov. 30, downing trees all over the city, including two at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club and a large tree on Maag Avenue near the junior high as well as a power pole or two. Wind gusts in the Oakdale area were approximately 30 mph but areas in Los Angeles were hit with winds as high as 100 mph. Tree Of Life Lights Hope For Families

Oakdale families are invited to celebrate their loved ones with the Oak Valley Hospital Foundation's Tree of Life. Donors can purchase a light on the tree in memory of a lost loved one or in honor of a survivor. Anyone can purchase a light and they are not specifically for one disease or disorder.

Cowboy Christmas Expands To Two-Day Event

Judging by the healthy turn out for both days, the decision to turn the 19th annual Cowboy Museum Cowboy Christmas into a two-day event was a smart one as community members and western-oriented shoppers crowded into the community center Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26.

Measure $ Allocated

Oakdale City Council members wasted no time appropriating Measure O sales tax dollars. The tax collection does not go into effect until April, but the council budgeted nearly $260,000 of the money at their recent meeting to keep two firefighter positions, two police officers, and operations of the senior and community centers. The adopted 2011-2012 budget included only partial funding for each of those services and hinged on the passing of Measure O to avoid cuts.

City Lights Up

Oakdale will deck its halls for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 2 with the annual lighting of the Oakdale Christmas tree. This year's tree lighting was organized and sponsored by the Oakdale Garden Club, and will include 30 smaller trees, each sponsored by local organizations.

Gather 'Round The Christmas Tree

Cloverland Elementary School students help kick off holiday festivities by decorating a tree for the city's tree lighting event. Cowboy Santa Rides Into Town

Cowboy Santa was sighted Saturday, Nov. 26 as he sauntered into the community center for his annual appearance at the Cowboy Museum's Cowboy Christmas event.
