Bachman Retires After Serving The Community For 29 Years

After 29 years of service to the Oakdale community, Rick Bachman has hung up his turnout gear for a new chapter – retirement. Battalion Chief Kevin Wise and Deputy Chief Michael Wapnowski of the Stanislaus Consolidated fire Protection District presented Bachman with a plaque to show appreciation for his years of service at the fire board meeting on Thursday, June 8. His official retirement date was May 15, 2017.

Motorists See Price Drop

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 2.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.00/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.37/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Knights Ferry's Graduation Day started a bit wet then cleared up, thank goodness! The event took place in front of the school overlooking the town. Pablo Martinez rang the bell to start the ceremony. Tate Cassaretto gave the Flag Salute and Sophia Thompson led the "Star Spangled Banner." Olivia Doshas gave the Invocation and Nicole Brunker and Makena Mendonca gave the Welcome. Exciting news! We have just received word that former Valley Home resident Gerardo (Lalo) Guaracha-Mendoza will be graduating from Fort Sill Oklahoma on June 23. Gerardo is completing Army basic training at Fort Sill. From Fort Sill he will travel to Fort Gordon in Georgia to complete his Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for his Military Specialty Occupation (MSO). Before joining the Army, Gerardo worked primarily in retail and client service occupations, but has always wanted to serve his community and his country. AAUW Celebrates 55 Years Of Service To Women, Girls

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon Branch fittingly met at the home of Barbara Marquis in May to celebrate its 55th anniversary. Both Marquis and her late mother, Margaret Garat, were charter members of the organization. Garat, who had been a member of the Modesto Branch, felt Oakdale needed its own branch. She reached out to 41 other local women who held college degrees including her daughter, Barbara, and they chartered the Oakdale Branch in April, 1962.

Sinister Creature Con Coming To Stockton

Sinister Creature Con will be held at the Stockton Arena this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11 to give horror and sci-fi enthusiasts a behind-the-scenes look into horror films both past and present. The convention will host more than 80 industry insiders from painters and sculptors to filmmakers and SFX studios. Together they will bring a massive display of horror and sci-fi related items like prototype sculptures, props, masks, antiques and oddities to the convention.
