AAUW Celebrates 55 Years Of Service To Women, Girls

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon Branch fittingly met at the home of Barbara Marquis in May to celebrate its 55th anniversary. Both Marquis and her late mother, Margaret Garat, were charter members of the organization. Garat, who had been a member of the Modesto Branch, felt Oakdale needed its own branch. She reached out to 41 other local women who held college degrees including her daughter, Barbara, and they chartered the Oakdale Branch in April, 1962.

Sinister Creature Con Coming To Stockton

Sinister Creature Con will be held at the Stockton Arena this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11 to give horror and sci-fi enthusiasts a behind-the-scenes look into horror films both past and present. The convention will host more than 80 industry insiders from painters and sculptors to filmmakers and SFX studios. Together they will bring a massive display of horror and sci-fi related items like prototype sculptures, props, masks, antiques and oddities to the convention.
