Library Available For Cooling

A reminder to local residents, the Oakdale Public Library, 151 S. First Ave., is a designated Stanislaus County cooling center for the community. With temperatures on Saturday predicted to soar well past 100 degrees – inching up near 110, residents that need a break from the heat are encouraged to come in to the library for some cool air.

Young Kyndall Henry, 4, of Oakdale, at right, has just had her leg painted by Jaci Kennedy, left, the Children's Ministry Director at Escalon Covenant Church during a July 4 celebration hosted by the church on Sunday, July 2. Looking on is big sister Kinsley, 6, who already had her turn in the chair. The entire Henry family traveled to neighboring Escalon for the family friendly celebration. Summer Pump Prices Down

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 3.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.81/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.22/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
