Businesses See Increase In Special Saturday Sales

On Saturday, consumers across the nation celebrated the small businesses that are the backbones of our communities, as Small Business Saturday completed its seventh anniversary. According to the Post-Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and American Express, a record 112 million consumers shopped on Small Business Saturday, marking a 13 percent increase over 2015. Additionally, awareness of Small Business Saturday reached 72 percent, slightly above the 70 percent recorded last year.

Coats And Cookies

The Oak Valley Hospital District Family Support Network is hosting its fourth annual Coats & Cookies Event on Wednesday, Dec. 7 and Thursday, Dec. 8. Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and it will be hosted at the Family Support Network facility, 1405 W. F St., Oakdale.

RIGHT ON TIME

In keeping with local holiday tradition, Cowboy Santa offered children a chance to pet his trusty partner, minutes after riding into the Plaza area of Gene Bianchi Community Center on Saturday. Wet, winter-like weather was not enough to keep enthusiasts away from a visit with the big guy, during the 23rd Annual Cowboy Christmas, which also featured vendors inside and outside the center.

Hoping to make the holidays brighter for underprivileged children around the region, the Oak Summit Masonic Lodge, in cooperation with the United States Marine Corps Reserve, has placed 'Toys for Tots' collection barrels and boxes in several locations.

Oakdale’s Ryle Smith Qualifies For NFR

Oakdale is known as "The Cowboy Capital of the World" and resident Ryle Smith is letting it be known on a global level. Smith, an Oakdale High School alum, is currently ranked 13th in the world in tie down competition. So far, 2016 has been a special year for the 29-year-old, as this is the first year he has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, NFR, which will be held in Las Vegas in December.

City Nets $355K For Trail Project

After the shutdown of a much anticipated outdoor project due to environmental safety concerns, the City of Oakdale, after nearly a year of negotiations, has been awarded $355,000 by the California Natural Resources Agency to get construction of the Valley View Park Trail back on track.

Shoeboxes Bring Gifts To Brighten Holidays

With donations coming in from Oakdale and the surrounding areas, over 680 shoeboxes were collected locally for children across the country and around the world through Operation Christmas Child. The 682 total boxes gathered at The River Christian Community on East G Street, which served as the collection center in town, will now head off on a journey to Southern California. They will go to Irvine for checking and processing, and from there will start the journey to needy children both in the U.S. and abroad.
