Church Hosts Event

Celebration Center Oakdale Church will host "Hot August Night," a community outreach event on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church will offer hot dogs, drinks, a dunking booth, pie eating contest, games and music. Earlier that day a church yard sale will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Missionaries for "Go Missions." Celebration Center Oakdale Church is located at 522 E. E St., Oakdale. Refrain From Vehicle Idling As Kids Return To School

With school back in session the Valley Air District is asking the public to reduce vehicle emissions by carpooling or walking their children to school and to refrain from vehicle idling during school pick-ups and drop-offs. Triple-digit temperatures and multiple wildfires are impacting Valley air quality, and the public's help is crucial in reducing the risk of spikes in ground-level ozone and exceeding federal air quality standards.

The opportunity for the public to thank a veteran and first responders occurred this past Saturday at the Grand Opening celebration of Veterans First on Patterson Road in Riverbank. The festivities began at 9 a.m. with an opening prayer.
