Eaton Receives Naval Academy Nomination

Oakdale High School senior Logan Eaton was called to the office last week to take a phone call he will not soon forget. Eaton was one of 16 Central Valley high school seniors to receive a phone call from U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock). The nature of the phone call was to inform the senior he was one of the nominees named for the United States Naval Academy.

Police Officer Positions Approved

As the city recovers financially, along with the recent passage of Measure Y – the continuation of the half-cent sales tax – Oakdale city officials moved to bolster the ranks of its condensed police force by adding two police officer positions to the department.

National, Local Gas Prices Still Dropping

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.72/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 8.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.57/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The 2014 CIF Sac-Joaquin Division III Section Champions, the Oakdale High School Mustangs, received notification Sunday that they will also take part in the CIF NorCal Division II 2014 Regional Football Championship Bowl Game. Crews Rescue Horse From Oakdale Pond

Early morning Thursday, Dec. 4, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District (SCFPD) firefighters were dispatched to the 13000 block of Horseshoe Road in Oakdale for a horse in a pond that needed rescuing. Upon arrival, SCFPD firefighters requested additional assistance from Modesto Fire Department and within about an hour, they rescued Sassy, the 24-year-old horse, from the cold water.
