Soroptimists Help Girls Learn To Dream And Do

Local service organization Soroptimist International of Oakdale hosted 23 girls from seventh through tenth grades at its "Dream It, Be It" conference held in the Oakdale High School library on a recent Saturday. Gaby Ceja, Oakdale's Distinguished Young Woman and senior at Oakdale High School, served as keynote speaker relating personal experiences and providing advice and encouragement to the girls as they navigate school, activities, and life. FANCY FEAST

Youngsters at The Learning Tree Preschool in Oakdale enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast recently, practicing for the real deal this week. They enjoyed turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, beverages and more. SUCCESSFUL OPERATION

Coordinator for the local effort of Operation Christmas Child, Liz Greenlee, smiles after counting up the packed shoeboxes that will help make the holidays brighter for youngsters around the globe. The total collection in the Oakdale area this year through the Samaritan's Purse program was 743, up from 686 last year. About 15 volunteers were involved in the collection and packing of the boxes for shipping out to Calvary Chapel in Modesto, then on to Corona to await further distribution.

County Clerk Recorder Certifies Vote Totals

Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder and Registrar of Voters Lee Lundrigan announced the Nov. 7, 2017 Consolidated District Election canvass of the vote was completed on Thursday Nov. 16, 2017. Stanislaus County certified its election results which can be found posted on the election website, www.stanvote.com.

WALL DEDICATION

Oakdale City Manager Bryan Whitemyer addressed a small crowd Monday night, Nov. 20 at the unveiling of the newly completed tile wall at the Alex and Emma Play Park. Whitemyer made mention of varying community members responsible for the completion of the park refurbishing project, which began in 2015.

Families Gather For Annual Salmon Fest

This past Saturday, Nov. 11, hundreds gathered at the Stanislaus River Park in Knights Ferry for the ninth annual Salmon Festival, hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District, FISHBIO, and other local partners.

Joe Carrillo smiles along with Geri Hernandez of the American Red Cross as they encourage donor Alyssa Heinz of Oakdale during the recent community blood drive hosted at the city's Gene Bianchi Community Center. Carrillo shows Heinz he already made his donation; Heinz said this was her second time donating. Hernandez said it was an "awesome" blood drive, with a goal of 24 pints of blood and the actual collection of 39, which can help save the lives of up to 117 people.
