Oakdale Junior High School Adds New Computer Science Elective

Farming and football aren't the only areas of interest for the decision makers of Oakdale Joint Unified School District. The start of the 2017-18 school year brought a welcome addition to the campus of Oakdale Junior High School by way of class elective. Beginning this school year, both seventh and eighth grade students were offered the option of Robotics.

Chamber Hosts Inaugural Downtown Pour In Stores

The Oakdale Chamber of Commerce will host a sip and shop event in Downtown Oakdale on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A selection of wine or brews at each of the nine participating merchants will be served.

In keeping with homecoming tradition, Oakdale High School students filled the downtown area this past weekend painting windows. The Junior Class painted windows of Oak Valley Community Bank in the class theme of R&B/Hip Hop. The Homecoming Week Powder Puff game is Wednesday, with crowning of the King and Prince, the Homecoming parade is Friday afternoon and coronation of the new Queen and Princess will be Friday night at halftime of the varsity football game.

Wildfires Prompt Health Caution

Smoke from the Northern California wildfires have the potential to affect air quality throughout the entire San Joaquin Valley, prompting local air pollution officials to issue a health cautionary statement Valley-wide. In addition, smoke impacts will continue from the Lion Fire (Tulare County) especially in the foothills and mountainous areas of Fresno, Tulare and Valley portion of Kern counties. The health caution will remain in place and smoke impacts will continue until the fires are extinguished.

Oakdale's Cowboy Capital lived up to its name on Saturday, Oct. 7 as the Oakdale Tourism and Visitors Bureau hosted their second annual Western Days event at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds. Oakdale Police have issued an advisory that, due to a traffic accident involving a power pole, traffic at East G Street and South Fifth Avenue, northbound and southbound Sixth Avenue and eastbound G at Grove Street is currently closed due to a traffic accident. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes.
