The California Trucking Association – San Joaquin Unit will host its 15th annual Truckin' for Hospice fundraiser on Saturday, June 25 to raise money for two local nonprofit hospice organizations, Community Hospice and Hospice of San Joaquin.

Tulane University awarded degrees to nearly 3,000 graduates on May 14, 2016 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Local student, Justine Keel of Oakdale, graduated from the Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. The ceremony's keynote speaker was Hoda Kotb, co-host of NBC's "Today" show who also received a Tulane President's Medal. Honorary degrees were given to renowned artist Lynda Benglis and Christopher Paola, a world leader in the study of earth surface processes, particularly in river and delta regions.

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 1.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.70/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.36/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

A larger than average crowd came out for the Oakdale Irrigation District's Tuesday, June 7 regular meeting, causing the venue to be changed to a larger on-site building. Public comments saw many of the attendees speaking out against Directors Linda Santos and Gail Altieri for their actions related to a lawsuit stopping the water district's On-Farm Conservation Program that had been approved earlier in the year.
