Community Band Concert Benefits Scholarship Fund

Two special concerts in September and October are planned at the Oakdale Senior Center, 450 E. A St., Oakdale. Tuesdays, Sept. 5 and Oct. 17 are the dates; concerts feature the Oakdale Community Band and the Singing Seniors, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Reduce Vehicle Emissions With Kids Back In School

Pollution from back-to-school traffic could cause a spike in ozone. With school back in session the Valley Air District is asking the public to reduce vehicle emissions by carpooling or walking their children to school and to refrain from vehicle idling during school pick-ups and drop-offs. Triple-digit temperatures and multiple wildfires may also impact Valley air quality, and the public's help is crucial in reducing the risk of spikes in ground-level ozone and exceeding federal air quality standards.

UNITY RALLY

Speaker Alejandro Carrillo, far right, joined community members and leaders to denounce racism at a rally aimed at unity Monday evening, Aug. 21 at the Community Center Plaza. The Oakdale Police Department was a solid presence at the rally as a precaution against any violence but the event went smoothly and without interruption. Oakdale City Mayor Pat Paul placed a resolution condemning racism, bullying, bigotry and hate within the community. Public Outreach Meeting Focuses On Wildlife Areas

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will host an outreach meeting on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Los Banos regarding Central Region Type A and B wildlife areas. CDFW will take comments and recommendations and provide updates on habitat conditions, availability of water for wetlands and possible impacts to hunter access on these public lands.

Stanislaus County Recognizing Immunization Awareness Month

During pregnancy, people are often thinking about baby names, nursery colors, and prenatal vitamins, but they should also be thinking about vaccines. Vaccines during pregnancy not only protect against diseases, but can also begin to pass some protection to the baby. This protection for the baby will last the first few months of life, until he or she is old enough to get vaccinated themselves and develop their own protection. Doctors and midwives routinely recommend two vaccines during pregnancy, the pertussis or "whooping cough" vaccine (Tdap) and the flu shot.
