Building upon his long-standing commitment to the nation's veterans, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) joined with local veterans and community leaders on Monday, Dec. 21 to announce the planned construction of the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in French Camp. Funding for the CBOC was included in the FY16 omnibus spending bill passed by Congress and signed by President Obama last week. Securing funding for the project is a critical step to move the clinic forward to the construction phase.

GasBuddy officials project that consumers will save $1.6 billion on gas over their year-end travels compared to last year. According to the annual GasBuddy holiday travel survey, 88 percent of those heading out of town will be doing so by car, with a majority (66 percent) driving at least 200 miles round trip.

With a March 1, 2016 deadline of a newly signed law approaching, the Oakdale City Council moved Monday, Dec. 21 to add the cultivation and delivery of medical marijuana to their already established ordinance banning marijuana dispensaries.

Oakdale Lions Club is hosting its Second Annual Super Bowl Sensation Event. Tickets to the event are $100, which permits two adults over the age of 21 to the indoor tailgate party on Monday, Dec. 21. The tailgate party will be hosted at Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. Food and beverage service begins at 5:30 p.m. Drawing for a variety of items will be offered during this time. Grand Prize is two Super Bowl 50 tickets and $1500. BloodSource hosted a "Be The Match" registry on Friday, Dec. 11 at the Bianchi Community Center. Local Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Wise was diagnosed with leukemia in September and the drive was to gather registrants for potential donations, not only for Deputy Chief Wise but others in need. According to organizers, over 50 people showed up as well as donated money for the Wise family.
