Hutton Stages ‘Wax Museum’

Next up at Hutton's Hamlet will be a performance of "Night at the Wax Museum" on Friday and Saturday, July 7 and 8. Six students who have flunked history retake the class in summer school, and set up a new wax museum as a class project. A mysterious incantation from the back of Cleopatra's bracelet by one of the students brings the wax figures to life.

Angry Birds Craft Project A Smash At Library

This past Thursday, nearly 50 kids packed the Oakdale Library for a craft activity, Design Your Fun. While the temperature outside climbed into the triple digits, the Oakdale Library, which serves as a designated cooling center, was the perfect spot for kids to come to and enjoy an afternoon of fun crafts.

The Snow Queen staged a successful weekend run at Hutton's Hamlet in Oakdale on June 23 and 24. Fire Crews Battle To Contain Ferry Blaze

Crews were on scene at what Cal Fire listed as the #OrangeFire off Sonora and Orange Blossom roads on Wednesday for several hours, containing the blaze at 65 acres. It was a good outcome for what could have been a much more serious situation, said officials, as the triple digit heat and breezy conditions on June 21 set the stage for a lengthy and much more destructive fire.

Life Jacket Giveaway Friday

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department has received a grant from the California State Department of Health "Kid Plates" of 300 children sized life jackets. With the assistance of Safe Kids Stanislaus County a water safety education course will be provided, and life jackets will be given away to children under 18 years of age from low-income families.

Woodward Drowning Claims Modesto Man

A 51-year-old Modesto man, identified by Stanislaus County officials as John Nelson, drowned at Woodward Reservoir on Monday afternoon. Several 9-1-1 calls were received at the sheriff's department about 1:45 p.m. Monday, June 19 reporting a possible drowning at Woodward, in Area BB on the east side of the reservoir.
