CHP Cadets Honor Officers

One hundred cadets are preparing to graduate from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Academy later this week. Before they do, they will run from the CHP Academy in West Sacramento to the California Peace Officers' Memorial monument across from the State Capitol. The approximate five-mile run is a tradition on the Wednesday before each graduation.

Willie Podesto, left, owner of the Rear End Shop in Riverbank donated the shop next door to Duke Cooper, a Marine Corps veteran that is opening a privately run Veterans First program in nearby Riverbank, a new retreat for veterans and first responders. The Grand Opening is set for Saturday, Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. at the location, 2372 Patterson Road. National Night Out Attracts A Crowd

Burchell Hill Park in Oakdale was full of life on Tuesday, Aug. 2 as members of the community came out for National Night Out to gather for an evening featuring a variety of booths, activities, food and fun. The annual community event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to help keep neighborhoods safer and make them a better place to live. The relationship between neighbors and Oakdale Police brings back a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring local law enforcement and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

City Fire Horn: Tradition Or Unnecessary Irritant?

There's a signature sound that has – in recent weeks – reemerged in the city to go off thrice daily from the city's fire station, only to be silenced again over the weekend. Sheriff’s Elite Dive Team Aims To Provide Closure

Waterways have been busy during the summer in this area, including Woodward Reservoir and nearby Jacob Myers Park packed with rafters, boaters, and swimmers. With the increase in visitors to the reservoirs and the rivers during the summer months, people are sometimes more focused on fun instead of water safety. The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Dive Team has been very busy this summer. They hold monthly trainings at the reservoirs and have been out several times on rescues and recovery missions. Their most recent training was at Woodward Reservoir on Aug. 4.

During July, an organization called 'Wings of Rescue' picked up several dogs from the Oakdale Animal Shelter and transported them to Washington. They were flown in a plane with a logo stating "love is in the air" on it to find permanent homes for these furry four legged pets.
