SMOOTH SEASON START

Despite some concerns over mosquitoes ruining the party, the more than 650 youngsters ready to play soccer in the Oakdale Youth Soccer League this season were happy to get on the field Saturday, Aug. 20. A group of Under 6 Boys smile at the crowd as they run onto the field after being announced, while Lorin Odom, 12, provided a stellar rendition of the National Anthem before the team introductions. Church Hosts Event

Celebration Center Oakdale Church will host "Hot August Night," a community outreach event on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church will offer hot dogs, drinks, a dunking booth, pie eating contest, games and music. Earlier that day a church yard sale will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Missionaries for "Go Missions." Celebration Center Oakdale Church is located at 522 E. E St., Oakdale. Refrain From Vehicle Idling As Kids Return To School

With school back in session the Valley Air District is asking the public to reduce vehicle emissions by carpooling or walking their children to school and to refrain from vehicle idling during school pick-ups and drop-offs. Triple-digit temperatures and multiple wildfires are impacting Valley air quality, and the public's help is crucial in reducing the risk of spikes in ground-level ozone and exceeding federal air quality standards.

Veterans First Has Opened

The opportunity for the public to thank a veteran and first responders occurred this past Saturday at the Grand Opening celebration of Veterans First on Patterson Road in Riverbank. The festivities began at 9 a.m. with an opening prayer. With approximately 80 to 100 people that stopped by throughout the day, the Veterans First building buzzed with positive energy, kindness, and support.
