Altamont Commuter Train Expands WiFi Services

Starting this month, 2017 WiFi service will be expanded to all passenger cars for all four eastbound trains, and all four westbound trains during weekday commuter service on ACE, the Altamont Commuter Express. Previously, Wi-Fi service was limited to one passenger car per trainset. Due to an overwhelming request from passengers to expand this train amenity, all ACE riders will be able to stay connected to family and or work while on their ride to their destination using ACE's extended WiFi service.

2017 Brings Changes For Tobacco Business

Sellers of electronic cigarettes, vaping devices and other related products, as of the first of the year, are now required to obtain a Cigarette and Tobacco Products Retailer's License from the California State Board of Equalization. On May 4, 2016, California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law Senate Bill No. 5 and Assembly Bill No. 11, requiring electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) be regulated the same as other tobacco products and establishing an annual licensing fee of $265 per location on retailers selling tobacco products.

Local Traffic Advisory

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alternately closing the #1 (left) and #2 (right) lanes on northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) from the Merced/Stanislaus County line to the Stanislaus/San Joaquin County line for paving operations. Due to the New Year's Holiday, there was no scheduled road work on Sunday, Jan. 1 or Monday, Jan. 2.

New Year Sees Higher Gas Prices

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 5.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.58/gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 5.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.34/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
