Kids Get Busy Raising Money For Relay

Preparations for the Oakdale Relay For Life 2012 are under way, and this year children of all ages are taking the initiative to raise funds. From selling homemade crafts to collecting spare change, Oakdale kids are finding plenty of ways to help out.

Man Arrested For Attempted Murder

Oakdale Police took a man into custody Monday night, Dec. 19 after he beat, choked, and threatened to kill his fiancee for attempting to leave him after repeated incidents of abuse that escalated into a frenzied attack that left the victim suffering from injuries severe enough to send her to the hospital. After subduing the 23-year-old man with a Taser blast, police found a loaded 40-caliber handgun in his bedroom. See the Wednesday, Dec. 21 issue of The Oakdale Leader for the full story.

Funeral Set For Waterford Baby Found In Trash

The funeral for the baby found in Waterford, on Dec. 1, is set for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Ceres Memorial Park located at 1801 E. Whitmore Ave in Ceres.

MID Schedules Outages To Repair Switch Line

As a reminder, Modesto Irrigation District gave notice to customers in the Oakdale area that there will be a scheduled outage, Sunday, Dec. 18 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The reason for the outage is so MID can replace a bad switch in their lines supplying power to Oakdale. The outage will affect the industrial area near ConAgra, Sconza, Ball Metal Food and Household as well as 1,200 residential customers.

Man Stabbed In Knights Ferry

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a late night stabbing Sunday, Dec. 11 near Knights Ferry that sent the male victim to Oak Valley Hospital.

This is a common sight across the country, even in a housing market where many find it cheaper to buy than to build. This is not a single family home, or even an apartment complex. This construction project is a senior housing complex, the one type of new building that is doing well despite the economy.

OID Board Selects Officers

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors selected its new officers for 2012 at the Dec. 6 regular meeting. Director Frank Clark will serve as board president, Steve Webb will serve as vice president, OID General Manager Steve Knell will serve as board secretary, and OID Chief Financial Officer Kathy Cook will serve as treasurer.

Infant Found Deceased In Waterford Trash Can

On Thursday evening, Dec. 1 at 9:22 p.m. Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Bait Barn located at 12505 Yosemite Blvd in Waterford, for an infant found in a garbage can. Fire personnel immediately responded and the infant was pronounced deceased.

Police Search For Stabbing Suspect

Police are searching for an Oakdale man suspected of stabbing another Oakdale man in the forearm following an argument. Benjamin Gayton, 29, is a local transient who is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches, 135 pounds, with very short, shaved brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a ripped white tank top undershirt. Gayton has a tattoo on his right arm that reads, "Gayton."

Stiff Wind Downs Trees

Dubbed an "epic windstorm" by Weather.com, the blustery storm didn't spare Oakdale as it blew through town Wednesday, Nov. 30, downing trees all over the city, including two at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club and a large tree on Maag Avenue near the junior high as well as a power pole or two. Wind gusts in the Oakdale area were approximately 30 mph but areas in Los Angeles were hit with winds as high as 100 mph. Tree Of Life Lights Hope For Families

Oakdale families are invited to celebrate their loved ones with the Oak Valley Hospital Foundation's Tree of Life. Donors can purchase a light on the tree in memory of a lost loved one or in honor of a survivor. Anyone can purchase a light and they are not specifically for one disease or disorder.
