Influx Of Wildfire Smoke Affecting San Joaquin Valley

Smoke from the Whittier (Santa Barbara County), Alamo (San Luis Obispo County), and Garza (Kings County) fires is affecting air quality in all locations throughout the San Joaquin Valley, from San Joaquin County to the Valley portion of Kern County. Smoke from the Schaeffer Fire located in Tulare County is affecting air quality in the foothill and mountain areas of Tulare and Kern County, especially the communities of Kennedy Meadows and Johnsondale.

Truck Vs. Fence

A truck hauling a trailer with cattle made an unexpected turn off the roadway along South Yosemite Avenue in Oakdale early afternoon Wednesday, July 12. The abrupt turn took out a portion of new fencing installed to separate the under construction Oakdale Community Park from the street. Authorities indicated there were no injuries to the driver and all the cattle also appeared to be unharmed. The cause was under investigation.

Turlock Lake State Rec Area Closure Announced

Turlock Lake operators American Land and Leisure (AL&L) are closing the campground at Turlock Lake, 22600 Lake Road in La Grange. The purpose of this closure is to address concerns raised during campground safety evaluations. Inspections identified many dead trees within the campgrounds that pose an imminent danger to campers. A hazardous tree removal project was delayed due to extensive flooding of the campground and a rise in water levels upon the Tuolumne River. The closure will remain in effect until the hazardous trees have been removed from the campgrounds.
