CHP Puts Focus On Distracted Teen Drivers

Traffic collisions are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States. In response to this troubling fact, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has partnered with Impact Teen Drivers with a shared goal, to change the teen culture and make distracted driving intolerable. The yearlong traffic safety campaign continues through September 2014.

The search to lead the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District ended when the district's board voted 4-0 and announced the appointment of its new fire chief, Randall Bradley, at its April 10 meeting. He will be paid $157,000 per year to lead the department.

November Initiative - City Wants Tax On Ballot

Fearing a 17 percent cut in city services with the loss of current Measure O funds, the Oakdale City Council on Monday night voted 4-1 in favor of requesting the county to place an initiative basically extending the current sales tax measure another five years on the November ballot.

High-Flying Rodeo Success

From the nearly perfect weather to well-attended events throughout the week, Oakdale's 63rd annual PRCA Rodeo culminated with a fast-paced weekend of competition. All Around champion at the Oakdale Saddle Club-sponsored rodeo was Elko, Nevada resident Dakota Eldridge. He earned the title and the championship buckle, finishing in the money in both steer wrestling and tie down roping.

Screening Of ‘Chasing Ice’ Planned

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a screening of the documentary film "Chasing Ice" on Thursday, April 17, at 7p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. Reclamation Increases Stanislaus River Flows

Beginning on Monday, April 14 the Bureau of Reclamation began increasing releases from Goodwin Dam into the Stanislaus River to benefit Stanislaus River steelhead and San Joaquin River Chinook salmon. Goodwin Dam is located downstream from Tulloch Dam and New Melones Dam and Reservoir, features of the Central Valley Project.
