Council Approves Fire Service Transfer

After putting finishing touches on a fire contract to have the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District assume fire service for the City of Oakdale and transfer its existing fire personnel to become employees of the district, the Oakdale City Council voted 5-0 Monday night to approve the handover, which is expected to become effective Sept. 1.

OID Rate Hike Study A ‘Go’

Oakdale Irrigation District directors moved a step closer Tuesday morning to raising agricultural water rates for the first time in three decades. Next, it will be up to the district's 2,900 customers to vote on whether they agree to pay significantly more for their water.

Survey Shows Continued Gas Price Decline

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 1.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.75/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.45/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Suspect From Oakdale Shooting Tied To Waterford Fatal Hit and Run

A gang member wanted in connection with a July 14 shooting in Oakdale was arrested by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Authorities say he is also suspected in the hit-and-run death of Oakdale resident Blake Barry, 20, in Waterford from December of last year.

Riverbank Homicide Suspect Sought In Area

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Detectives are investigating the homicide of a 59-year-old man who was found dead in the front yard of a house in the 3700 block of Texas Avenue in Riverbank on Tuesday night, Aug. 5.

Council Not Aware Of FAA Complaint

Despite airport items on recent agendas, the Oakdale mayor and city council members claim they were not advised of an April complaint letter from the Federal Aviation Administration and the city's May 5 response letter. Some of the agenda items approved by the council even included a quarterly street sweeping contract and $16,000 lighting upgrade to bring the airport up to standards addressed in the complaint.

Oakdale's Measure Y Argument Unopposed On November Ballot

Oakdale City Clerk Kathy Teixeira's office advised the 'Yes on Measure Y Committee' that no arguments in opposition were filed with her office by the July 17 deadline. In addition, no rebuttals to the argument for the measure were filed by the July 29 deadline.
