Annual Catfish Derby June 4 At Oak Grove

San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation and the Delta Fly Fishers will host the 32nd annual Catfish Derby on Saturday, June 4 beginning at 6:15 a.m. at Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton.

Study Shows Trees Moving To Higher, Cooler Elevations

Signature tree species in the high Sierra Nevada forests – including mountain hemlock, red fir and western white pine – are shifting toward higher, cooler elevations according to new research by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). Graffiti Car Show Comes To Modesto

The North Modesto Kiwanis Club expects more than 1,200 classic vehicles – all vintage 1979 and older – for its 18th annual American Graffiti Car Show and Festival scheduled June 10-12 in Modesto. National Lab Joins Almond Industry Groundwater Recharge Research Effort

Almond Board of California and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have announced a new partnership focused on better understanding subsurface water storage, quality and movement in relation to almond orchard groundwater recharge test sites. This important research will join the ongoing efforts by University of California, Davis and others to understand the potential of using California's almond orchards for groundwater recharge.

Drugstore Project Continues Prevention Education

Over 800 elementary school students and several dozen adult and high school volunteers made a somewhat unique pilgrimage to Fair Oaks Elementary School earlier this month. A number of service agencies were also onsite including Oakdale Police Department, Oakdale Fire Department, Oak Valley Hospital, Oakdale Memorial Chapel and many more in observance of the bi-yearly 'Drugstore Project.'

Two OID Directors Actions Questioned

With an April litigation regarding water sales against the Oakdale Irrigation District going through various motions in Stanislaus County Superior Court, two sitting OID directors who cast March 15 dissenting votes for the sale, have voluntarily provided the plaintiffs' attorney with declarations containing emails they had with OID General Manager Steve Knell. After the information was supplied, the court reversed its decision from allowing the program to putting a halt until environmental concerns could be addressed.
