Tourism Board Gets One-Year Reprieve

By a 4-1 vote, with councilman Tom Dunlop opposed, the Oakdale Tourism Board will continue to operate for a year, utilizing a hotel tax to promote the city in an effort to attract visitors.

Planning Commission Eyes Big Box Ordinance

At the direction of the current city council, the Oakdale City Planning Commission will reopen discussions on the 2004 city ordinance governing "Big Box" commercial building in preparation for the upcoming General Plan workshops.

OID Irrigation Talks Start

A discussion about the start of the 2012 water season held at the Feb. 21 regular meeting of the Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors resulted in the board unanimously voting to hold off on starting the first irrigation until at least March 6. Director Steve Webb moved that the district get the OID water system ready to deliver water now and then to decide at the March 6 board meeting when to start the irrigation rotations.

Council To Visit Tourism Board Dispute

The Oakdale City Council is meeting tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 21, instead of Monday due to the Presidents' Day holiday. Among other items on the agenda, there is an item regarding a dispute surrounding the tourism board, which was formerly overseen by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce.

Cops Bust Two Possible Thieves

Police arrested two Oakdale men with outstanding warrants Wednesday, Feb. 15 after a patrol officer found the two men in a verbal confrontation on First Avenue and J Street near their illegally parked vehicle.

Traffic Advisory For Sisk And Dale Road

On Friday, Feb. 17, State Route 219 (Kiernan Avenue) between Sisk Road and Dale Road will be closed for approximately 30 minutes beginning at 8:45 a.m. Traffic going eastbound will be detoured south on Sisk Road and Pelandale Avenue will be the alternate route. Traffic going westbound will be detoured south on Dale Road with Pelandale Avenue being the alternate route. The roadway is expected to reopen at approximately 9:15 a.m.

ROTA Incurs Financial Penalty

Riverbank Oakdale Transit Authority has incurred a $14,000 penalty for failing to meet the 10 percent fare box ratio of the state's funding for operating the public bus system, ROTA Coordinator Donna Bridges reported in her memo to the board that met yesterday, Feb. 14.

Council Formalizes Fire Services Merger

Members of the Oakdale City Council formally approved a contract at their Monday night meeting that will merge the headquarters of Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District, City of Oakdale Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District. The merged headquarters provides one fire chief from the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District to oversee all three agencies. The merge is expected to happen by June of this year.
