Rim Fire Sends Smoke To Valley Floor

The Rim Fire in Tuolumne County has prompted local air officials to issue a health cautionary statement for smoke impacts in six Valley air basin counties: San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno and Tulare, especially the foothill and mountain areas. The caution is in place through Labor Day weekend, when visitors will be traveling to the Sierra Nevada.

Son Arrested In Pettit Homicides

With a history of being a security guard with a license to carry a firearm and reported past boasting of phantom employment within the fire service, it may not be surprising that Brandon Pettit, 25, was arrested in connection with the murder of his parents. The bodies of his mother and father were discovered after an Aug. 8 house fire in Modesto.

Local Realtors Express Fury With City

Learning of the city's move to go with Prudential Commercial Real Estate of Modesto to list the Downtown Hershey Building caused Oakdale real estate agents to voice their ire towards city officials at a monthly Realtors meeting at the Oakdale Country Club on Thursday, June 12. In return, the city has reversed its decision to contract with Prudential Commercial Real Estate and will now reintroduce the item at Monday's June 16 city council meeting.

No 10-Day OID Rotations

"In light of drought and continuing water conditions," the Oakdale Irrigation District will forgo 10-day irrigation rotations for the 2014 water season, which will also leave some water in the district's "conservation account" at New Melones Reservoir, said OID General Manager Steve Knell at the June 3 regular meeting of the OID Board of Directors.
