On Wednesday, March 20, 2018, at about 10:15 p.m., Oakdale Police received a report of alleged threats made on Instagram regarding a possible shooting to take place at Oakdale High School. Police were able to obtain the actual Instagram post and determined it did not contain threats of a shooting or violence. Oakdale High School administrators were contacted regarding the report and were notified no confirmed threat exists at this time.

In recognition of Women's History Month, activities planned at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton include the showing of a special film. "Liberated" will be shown at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27 at the college's West Forum. The film tells the story of a young man who fled Oaxaca, Mexico for the United States 20 years ago, returning later as a transgender woman and healthcare advocate. The Delta Pride Center will welcome Alejandra, who is portrayed in the film, and film director Brenda Avila-Hanna for a question and answer session as part of the presentation.

Oak Valley Art Society is getting ready for its annual Members Spring Art Show, to be held at the Escalon Library on Second Street. Dates for the show are Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. Show hours are Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 2 p.m., followed by a reception where awards will be given. The annual Can Tree Breakfast hosted by the Oakdale Realtors always pays big dividends for Oakdale Community Sharing. At a regular meeting earlier this month, the Realtors group presented a check for $13,000 to the local food cupboard representatives Ken Narita and Fred Rich. They also provided some information about the need that Community Sharing fills for those less fortunate in the area. Longtime Oakdale Lions Club member James 'Jim' Tyson, a past president of the local service organization, works his shift at the griddle on Sunday morning, March 18, flipping the pancakes as hungry diners wait to fill their plates. The annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast served several hundred attendees, with pancakes, eggs, sausage, Canadian bacon, coffee and juice all on the menu.
