Soroptimists Help Girls Learn To Dream And Do

Local service organization Soroptimist International of Oakdale hosted 23 girls from seventh through tenth grades at its "Dream It, Be It" conference held in the Oakdale High School library on a recent Saturday. Gaby Ceja, Oakdale's Distinguished Young Woman and senior at Oakdale High School, served as keynote speaker relating personal experiences and providing advice and encouragement to the girls as they navigate school, activities, and life. Youngsters at The Learning Tree Preschool in Oakdale enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast recently, practicing for the real deal this week. They enjoyed turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, beverages and more. Coordinator for the local effort of Operation Christmas Child, Liz Greenlee, smiles after counting up the packed shoeboxes that will help make the holidays brighter for youngsters around the globe. The total collection in the Oakdale area this year through the Samaritan's Purse program was 743, up from 686 last year. About 15 volunteers were involved in the collection and packing of the boxes for shipping out to Calvary Chapel in Modesto, then on to Corona to await further distribution.
