OID Support - Life Jacket Program Buoyed

Oakdale fire and rural fire departments have been given $3,000 from Oakdale Irrigation District to use toward the purchase of 140 life jackets for a loaner program being implemented for use on Oakdale's waterways and the Stanislaus River. The OID Board of Directors voted 4-0 to support Oakdale's life jacket program in an action at the Aug. 2 regular meeting. Director Herman Doornenbal was absent.

Huli Huli Fundraiser Saturday

The first Huli Huli fundraiser is slated for Saturday, July 30 at the Rodeo Grounds from 6 p.m. until midnight where attendees will enjoy a teriyaki chicken and rice dinner followed by dancing with music provided by local favorite Remedy. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Local Exhibitors Win Fair Prizes

Local 4-H and FFA members had good results with their livestock and other exhibits at the Stanislaus County Fair, which ran July 15-24. Several Oakdale exhibitors brought home champion and reserve champion ribbons, as well as numerous other top class placings with their breeding and market stock. The local youth also had entries in the building exhibits that collected top prizes. For more details and photos, see the July 27 issue of The Oakdale Leader.

County Fair Welcomes Visitors

The Turlock Mosquito Abatement District and Public Health Officials received notification that three mosquito samples taken in the Turlock area on July 8 were positive with the West Nile Virus (WNV), indicating that West Nile Virus (WNV) is active in Stanislaus County.
