Artwork Submission Sought For Arbor Week Contest

Trees are an essential part of California's climate and are vital to improving air quality and conserving water. To help educate Californians on the value that trees provide to building successful, healthy cities and neighborhoods, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and California ReLeaf are announcing the annual statewide Arbor Week poster contest for students in third, fourth and fifth grades. Eaton Receives Naval Academy Nomination

Oakdale High School senior Logan Eaton was called to the office last week to take a phone call he will not soon forget. Eaton was one of 16 Central Valley high school seniors to receive a phone call from U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock). The nature of the phone call was to inform the senior he was one of the nominees named for the United States Naval Academy.

Police Officer Positions Approved

National, Local Gas Prices Still Dropping

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.72/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 8.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.57/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
