Homecoming Powder Puff Battle Ends In Tie

The annual Homecoming week Juniors vs. Seniors powder puff flag football game took place on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Thousands of fans gathered to watch the game at The Corral and were not disappointed in the action. Last season the seniors defeated the juniors 33-0 and last year's juniors – now seniors – did not want to lose again.

Don’t Rain On Our Parade

Rainy weather arrived just prior to the start of the annual Oakdale High School Homecoming Parade on Friday afternoon, with the parade stepping off a little earlier than scheduled in hope of beating the raindrops. Here are a few photos from the semi-soaked festivities.

CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT

Chosen as the 2016 football Homecoming royalty were Homecoming Queen Deonna Osmundson, left, and Princess Grace Verdegaal, the two taking a moment to smile for the camera after being crowned at halftime of the Friday night football game at The Corral. Earlier in the week Noah Rodrigues was crowned Homecoming King and Blake Morgan as Prince.

Council Selects New Police Chief

Twenty-year police veteran Scott Heller was named chief of police after he was unanimously approved by the Oakdale City Council prior to the start of the council's regular meeting Monday night, Oct. 17.

Altieri and Santos Vindicated By Superior Court Ruling

Two Oakdale Irrigation District directors that had been barred from discussing certain closed-door lawsuit discussions, due to a temporary order filed by the district, have been exonerated for their actions and allowed back into meetings with a Stanislaus Superior Court judge tossing out the order on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Looking for a good book? Librarians at the Oakdale Library are always happy to offer reading suggestions. And now, a good book is easier to find than ever. New books at the Oakdale Library will be featured on the first Wednesday of each month in the Oakdale Leader. Librarians will provide information about books for children and adults, both fiction and non-fiction.

Comedy-Drama ‘Album’ Set At Stage 3 Theatre Company

Album, a comedy drama by David Rimmer and directed by Rocky Rhoades, opens Friday, Oct. 14 and plays for only three weekends until Oct. 30, at Stage 3 Theatre Company, 208 S. Green St., in historic downtown Sonora.

NATIONAL 4-H WEEK

Several Sierra 4-H members spent the evening recently with customers at Tractor Supply Company in Oakdale promoting National 4-H Week. The 4-H members sold green paper clovers that represented head, heart, hands, and health, with the clovers signifying the buyer's support of the program. A display shows some of the activities that 4H offers. Members would like to thank the community for continuing to support them.

Sunday Film, Festivities Benefit AAUW Programs
