Land decisions underscored a series of votes by the Oakdale City Council on Monday evening, Nov. 5. After discussions, the council chose to re-designate 10 acres in the Bridle Ridge housing development from high-density to medium-density residential zoning, voted to purchase three parcels on Yosemite Avenue between H and J streets for the proposed community plaza and skate park, and moved forward for a new perimeter fence around the city-owned airport.
Incumbent Oakdale City Councilman Tom Dunlop appeared headed for re-election to a four-year term with 1,141 votes as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, with five of 10 Oakdale precincts reporting in. Newcomer Don Petersen was close behind with 1,111 votes and, if the trend held, would be elected to the other four-year term on the council.
Knights Ferry will be hosting the 49th Annual Pumpkin Roll in the historic community on Sunday, Nov. 4. This traditional 'Sunday after Halloween' event draws participants from throughout the Valley to try their hand at the art of rolling a pumpkin.
The Spirit of Oakdale committee is continuing to do what it does best. They will be hosting the 19th annual Thanksgiving dinner at Oakdale's Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22. They will be serving from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and seating people as they come through the door.

Oakdale voters casting a ballot for treasurer will have a choice of two candidates whose interest goes back to earlier this year when both candidates applied to fill the remaining term when the position was vacated. The city clerk candidate is running unopposed, however she has been prepping for the role at city hall since outgoing clerk Nancy Lilly announced her retirement.
