Oakdale, Central Catholic Vie For VOL Championship

The moment football fans have waited patiently for has arrived. This Friday night, the Mustangs and Raiders go to battle for the Valley Oak League championship. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 has been circled on many calendars since the schedule was released earlier this summer. Both Oakdale and Central Catholic enter the regular season finale undefeated in league play, and want the bragging rights heading into the postseason.

Final Month To Apply For SBA Disaster Loans

Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration's Disaster Field Operations Center-West on Monday reminded small nonfarm businesses in 21 California counties of the Nov. 30, 2017, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by excessive rainfall and high winds that occurred March 3 through June 1, 2016.

State Gas Prices Higher Than National Average

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 4.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.78/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.45/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

MJC Offers Screening Of The White Helmets

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a free screening of the documentary film The White Helmets on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on MJC's East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The event is part of the CEP Fall Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.

OPERATION WARMTH

Oakdale High School Leadership and Central Catholic's Leadership Class team members have once again teamed up for "Operation Warmth." During the week of Oct. 30 through Nov. 3 the two schools will collect socks, gloves and/or mittens, beanies, scarves, disposable hand warmers and miscellaneous winter clothing to distribute to those in need and the homeless. Community members may make donations at OHS or to a donation box at the Oakdale/Central Catholic football game at Central, Nov. 3.
