Lawsuit Filed In Officer's Off Duty Death

The family of the late Oakdale Police Officer Paul Katuszonek, who was tragically killed on Nov. 8, 2012 when his Honda Accord was rear ended by a semi-tractor trailer on Highway 132 in Modesto, has filed a lawsuit claiming wrongful death, negligence, and "survivor actions."

Hospital Obstetrics Closure Action Likely

Despite two heated public forums on the matter where citizens and employees alike opposed closing Oak Valley Hospital's Obstetrics Unit, CEO John McCormick will be recommending shutting the department at the hospital's Board of Directors meeting tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Italian Dairymen Touch Down For Tour

Not your usual stop, but a tour bus pulled up in the parking lot of the A.L. Gilbert Company in Oakdale recently, filled with nearly four dozen Italian dairymen and their spouses. For the most part, the Italian visitors were in California on vacation, but decided to work a few days so they took a tour of the A.L. Gilbert Company and of a few dairies in the Stanislaus-San Joaquin County area.

Manager Seeks Cost Recovery

Whitemyer, only on the job since Feb. 4, announced that recent California Department of Finance rulings have allowed California cities to recover some of their costs lost with the dissolution of former redevelopment agencies and the administrative costs now associated with the successor agencies.

A revised list of parcels for agricultural annexation was approved by the Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors at its Feb. 19 regular meeting. The approval was for a total of 812.1 acres, owned by seven applicants, to be annexed. This item had been tabled at the prior OID meeting.
