Ceja Takes Title As Oakdale’s Distinguished Young Woman

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was held Saturday, March 11, at Magnolia School Auditorium. Oakdale High School senior and reigning Distinguished Young Woman Annalise VanderVeen passed her title to Gaby Ceja, a junior at Oakdale High School. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Gaby was awarded three $200 scholarships for the Scholastics, Interview, and Talent categories. In an effort to combat frivolous lawsuits, U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) has introduced H.R. 1493, the ADA Lawsuit Clarification Act. The bill is designed to deter lawsuits accusing small businesses of violating portions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Area Gas Prices Rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 3.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.80/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.29/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

American AgCredit Outlines 2016 Strong Financial Growth

American AgCredit, the nation's fifth largest agricultural lending cooperative, this week announced a net income of $104.5 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 2016, along with a cash dividend distribution of $50.2 million to its shareholders. This compares to a net income of $99.7 million and a cash dividend of $43.5 million for the prior year. American AgCredit has returned more than $350 million to its customer-owners since 2005.
