ART ON DISPLAY

Modesto Junior College Art Gallery presents Abstract Considerations, an exhibition of the works of artist Matt Rhoades. The display is open to the public through Thursday, Sept. 22. The MJC Art Gallery is located on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto and it is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

General Deer Season Opens This Weekend

California's 2016 general deer season will open in zones B1-B3, B5, B6, C1-C4, D6-D8, X9A, X9B and X12 on Saturday, Sept. 17. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) reminds hunters to pay close attention to the occurrence of wild fires in their favorite hunting spots. Area Motorists See Slight Rise In Prices

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 5.0 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.57/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.17/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

MJC Presentation Focuses On Mountain Lions, Bighorn Sheep

The Modesto Area Partners in Science (MAPS) will offer the presentation "Mountain lions and bighorn sheep: risks, rewards, or range abandonment?" by Jeff Villepique, Ph.D., a wildlife biologist with California Fish & Wildlife, Inland Deserts Region.
