Area Price Falls At Pump

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 1 cent per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.07/gallon, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.50/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Leadership Academy Healthcare Day

Stanislaus County Leadership Academy is slated to meet on Friday, March 2 for Healthcare Day. Students will visit Memorial and Doctor's Medical Centers to learn about careers in the healthcare industry, and will have the opportunity to hear from professionals working in areas such as trauma, labor and delivery, and the operating room.

Library Friends Schedule Used Book Sale

Do you like books? Are you fond of treasure hunts? What's more fun than a treasure hunt among books? That's what book lovers will find at the upcoming Friends of the Oakdale Library used book sale at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale on Tuesday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Thursday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oakdale’s Inaugural Father-Daughter Ball A Success

Oakdale Sunrise Rotary is beaming with excitement at the success of their inaugural "Boots and Bows" Father/Daughter Ball, hosted in February at the Gene Bianchi Community Center. Attendees enjoyed dancing, food, an enormous candy table and chocolate fondue station, raffle prizes, and more. There were a few unexpected surprises as well.

Shelter Pet Alliance Program Reaches Another Milestone

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) recently celebrated the completion of 3,000 dog and cat spay/neuters through its voucher program since the program started in August 2011. Anne McFarlin, a first time voucher customer from Oakdale, was all smiles when she was presented with a Petco gift basket that was provided by Billie Mende in recognition of reaching the program milestone.

Grants Provided For Variety Of Habitat, Wildlife Projects

At its Thursday, Feb. 22 quarterly meeting, the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) approved approximately $17.9 million in grants to help restore and protect fish and wildlife habitat throughout California. Some of the 15 approved projects will benefit fish and wildlife – including some endangered species – while others will provide public access to important natural resources. Several projects will also demonstrate the importance of protecting working landscapes that integrate economic, social and environmental stewardship practices beneficial to the environment, landowners and the local community.

Distinguished Young Women Hopefuls Vie For Title

The annual Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale program will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Magnolia School Auditorium. Soroptimist International of Oakdale has sponsored the program for the past 30 years. Oakdale High School senior Gabrielle Ceja currently holds the title of Oakdale's Distinguished Young Woman.

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to Free Speech and Hate Speech: A Panel Discussion with Experts on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. This group was busy with a steady stream of customers on Saturday outside the local SaveMart on East F Street.
