Members of the CAPS, Citizens Auxiliary Police Service, in Oakdale were on hand at the recent Chamber of Commerce Home Show, offering information to residents about the services they provide in the city. The group is also looking for new volunteers to join the CAPS, who assist the police department in such ways as doing vacation checks, fingerprinting for kids, crowd and traffic control at special events and more. Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 1.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.80/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.28/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) recently celebrated the completion of 2,500 dog and cat spay/neuters through their voucher program since it started in August 2011. Sarah Atwood and Mary Dunn, voucher customers from Riverbank, were all smiles when they were presented with Petco gift baskets for their pets in recognition of reaching the program milestone, thanks to Anna Gervasio of Petco in Riverbank.

On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, people across the United States will observe Equal Pay Day, a national day of action to combat the gender pay gap. Equal Pay Day is the symbolic day when women's earnings "catch up" to men's earnings from the previous year. This means women on average have to work until April 4 just to take home what a man did in 2016.
