Distinguished Young Women Applicants Sought

Soroptimist International of Oakdale is seeking Junior Class girls to participate in the Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale for the Class of 2017 scholarship program. Over $6,000 in college scholarships and the Distinguished Young Woman of Oakdale title will be awarded at the program to be held Feb. 13, 2016 at Magnolia School Auditorium. Participants need not attend Oakdale High School, but must live within the 95361 zip code.

“Autumn Broadway Blast” Debuts On Stage Sunday

YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company will stage its first-ever production of "Autumn Broadway Blast," a Broadway music review in a coffeehouse type setting with desserts and warm drinks served. Saturday Salmon Fest Slated In Knights Ferry

Now that it's November, the view from the Knights Ferry Bridge is sure to include Chinook salmon during the peak of their migration. To celebrate the salmon, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District, FISHBIO, and other local partners come together to put on the annual Stanislaus River Salmon Festival. The sixth annual event will be held in Knights Ferry at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Stanislaus River Park on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Dump Site Cleanup Adds $80K To Park Project

Holiday Boutiques Usher In November

The first Saturday of November heralded the arrival of the holiday shopping season with a couple of festive boutiques. The annual St. Mary' Catholic Church Craft Fair drew plenty of shoppers and diners both Saturday and Sunday, with breakfast and lunch available. Not far away, the Oakdale Family Church of the Nazarene played host to another craft fair, with tables set up outside and indoors. Food was also available for purchase there.

Bicycle Fundraiser Aids Rescue Mission

As part of their 75th Anniversary Celebration, the Gospel Center Rescue Mission is hosting its inaugural "Spinning With A Mission" bicycling fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Oak Park in Stockton. All proceeds raised for the event will benefit the mission and the programs they offer to aid the homeless and addicted in the community. The Gospel Center Rescue Mission is the only agency in San Joaquin County that meets the long-term needs of the homeless and has the highest success in their recovery.
