Sacramento Job Fair

Waste Management's Sacramento/Nevada Area will be hosting a local job fair to recruit Customer Service Representatives to work in their Gold River call center. The job fair will take place Feb. 15-16 in Sacramento, and interested candidates must pre-register by Friday, Feb. 10.

Roaring 20's Party Supports Museum

Crossing Guards Braving Hostile Drivers For Kids

Council Formalizes Fire Services Merger

Members of the Oakdale City Council formally approved a contract at their Monday night meeting that will merge the headquarters of Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District, City of Oakdale Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District. The merged headquarters provides one fire chief from the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District to oversee all three agencies. The merge is expected to happen by June of this year.

Stanislaus County Library Tax Fate Hangs In Balance

Oakdale voters will have the opportunity this June to decide the fate of their public library. The Oakdale branch of the Stanislaus County Library is funded in part by a one-eighth cent sales tax collected throughout Stanislaus County. The tax accounts for 84 percent of the Stanislaus County Library funding, and it is set to expire in 2013. The sales tax will be on the ballot in the June 5, 2012 Primary Election.

OID Sets Fringe Parcel Terms

A revised draft of terms for a one-time option of annexation to the Oakdale Irrigation District for select groups of "fringe" parcels was set by the OID board in a unanimous action at the Feb. 7 regular meeting.

City Requests Relocation Of OID Line

The City of Oakdale asked that the Oakdale Irrigation District relocate its West Pump Pipeline No. 2 before the start of the 2012 irrigation season. The pipeline currently runs on Stearns Road, north of Highway 108/120 and then heads west toward the rodeo grounds, the pipeline also runs through the limits of the Trieste Subdivision project and results in conflicts with the road alignment that is part of the city's plan to develop the area. The housing development is an age-restricted community of 100 homes located across from the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

Crossing Guard Conundrum

The crossing guards stationed at three different high-traffic crossing areas commonly used by students in the morning and afternoon are quite possibly the bravest people in Oakdale, given the fact how many pedestrian vs. vehicle accidents occur in the city. But recently, some crossing guards have said they've caught some guff over their need to stop traffic so the children can cross. Some drivers aren't stopping at all and are blowing through the crosswalk, jeopardizing the safety of the children and the crossing guard. Pilots Adjust Pattern

Oakdale airport-bound pilots are rethinking their flight paths in the interest of public safety and comfort. Air traffic has been re-directed away from the air space above Sierra View Elementary School after community complaints that the planes were flying too low.

State Of The City Outlined By Mayor

Oakdale Mayor Pat Paul took her audience on a trip through the last year of Oakdale history with her State of the City address on Jan. 25. She gave the address to a crowd of more than 100 business owners, city staff and other Oakdale community leaders and residents at a luncheon hosted by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce.

RDA Payback List Finalized

The Oakdale Redevelopment Agency met for the last time on Monday to finalize an EOPS, Enforceable Obligations Payment Schedule. The EOPS is a list of all RDA debt that will need to be repaid under the guidance of the RDA's successor agency. Also included on the list were planned RDA projects that have not yet broken ground. Interim City Manager Gregory Wellman said that each item on the list was already intended to use RDA funds.
