CHP Plans Special Enforcement Period

As motorists prepare to head out onto the highway for some summer fun this Independence Day, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is doing its part to help keep the fireworks where they belong … in the sky. And with some advance planning, the CHP hopes this can be a safe celebration for everyone.

Concerns Linger Over Corridor

Plenty of people turned out at the neighboring Riverbank Community Center on June 15 for a meeting on the North County Corridor State Route 108 East Route Adoption. At an estimated several hundred, there were probably more than the California Department of Transportation expected and they were without microphones, so it was virtually impossible for the organizers to direct the confused gathering.

OID Discusses 10-Day Rotations

The Oakdale Irrigation District is considering going to 10-day rotations in July. Water Operations Manager Kevin King told the Board of Directors that it's expected for temperatures to be high this week and the district may provide one or two 10-day rotations, then will go back to 12-day rotations.

Swine Flu Case Confirmed In Stanislaus County

Stanislaus County Public Health officials have received confirmation from the State laboratory of a positive novel H1N1 (swine flu) case in the county. The affected county resident is a 22-year-old woman who did not require hospitalization. The test results were provided to the Stanislaus County Public Health laboratory Friday afternoon.

OID Raises Annexation Fees

The Oakdale Irrigation District Board of Directors voted unanimously at the June 2 regular meeting to raise annexation fees in the district by using a Book Value formula that amounts to $2,677.32 per acre. The annexation fee is currently $360 per acre, which General Manager Steve Knell called "fully inadequate."

Stanislaus County Unveils Proposed Budget

The Stanislaus County Chief Executive Office has released the county's proposed budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. The proposed budget will serve as an interim spending plan for Stanislaus County operations until a final budget for 2009-2010 is adopted in September. A public hearing on the 2009-2010 proposed budget has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 to be continued if necessary on June 10 and 11 at 9 a.m. for the Board of Supervisors to adopt a proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
